The Sonatine d'Amour in three movements, technically and rhythmically demanding, lasting about 15 minutes, was composed in 2021. The first version for love oboe and piano was immediately followed by a version for clarinet in A. The piano part of both versions is identical and reserves a small surprise at the end of the work, for example when the same “page turner” “lends a hand” after the last turn of the page (optional), since the piano part is noted as a final four-handed increase towards the end.
A calm and melancholic Prélude is followed by a Fantaisie with neoromantic tones with a central section similar to a joke, before the restless and virtuous final movement.
Clarinets of different sizes produce a sound of a different character; so the clarinet in C has a bright and lively tone; the clarinet in Bb is suitable for the type of noble or melancholic music, while the clarinet in A has a more pastoral character. Undoubtedly, Muller's new clarinet, if it were universally adopted, would deprive composers of the opportunity to make use of these distinct characteristics.
