Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor is undoubtedly one of the most important works of organ literature. The extraordinary popularity of this composition has led to a large number of arrangements for a wide variety of instrumentations. This testifies to the enormous capacity for inspiration inherent in Bach's organ piece. As a clarinettist, it was also important to me to approach Bach's special harmonic power, virtuoso melody and unique polyphony and rhythm. It was my aim to find my own and new tonal language for the clarinet and at the same time to orientate myself as closely as possible to the original (Christoph Schneider, arranger).
